Air
deodorizers. Fill dishes with kitchen herbs,
spices such as cloves and cinnamon, potpourri, or baking soda, and
distribute
about the room.
Carpet
shampoos. Remove small spots with club soda
or a mix that is half white vinegar, half cold water. Sprinkles baking
soda,
then vacuum. Test a tiny area for colorfastness before applying to a
larger
area.
Disinfectants.
Clean area with soap and hot water.
When someone is sick,
boil objects
handled by patient. Use unscented
white
facial tissues and disposable eating utensils.
Drain
cleaners. Flush drain with hot water
followed by a heaping tablespoon of baking soda
or half a cup of
vinegar.
Follow with several cups of water. Open blockages with a small
plumber’s snake
or other mechanical device.
Fire
extinguishers. Keep a commercial fire
extinguisher on hand for major fires and use as a one-time emergency
procedure;
in minor kitchen fires, pour on baking soda to suffocate flames.
Furniture
polish. Vacuum furniture or dust
surfaces with slightly dampened cloth. Apply olive or lemon oil onto
wood and
leather. Sprinkle lightly with cornstarch and rub to a high gloss.
Glass
cleaner. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar
to three cups of water. Spray or rub on surface and wipe dry.
