During the spring and fall, when the pollen count is high, it is allergy season. An allergy
is a sensitive reaction to one or more sallergiesubstances in the environment.
An allergic reaction is the immune system’s response to perceive
invaders in the body. These invaders, which are usually harmless, are
known as allergens. An allergic reaction can range from mild to severe.
are caused by the immune system response that is greater than is needed
to respond to the presence of a foreign substance in the body. The
immune system attempts to attack the allergen with a range of reactions
from a mild skin rash to a severe asthma attack. A person who is
hypersensitive to a substance has antibodies to fight against it.
Whenever that person is exposed to the allergen, the antibodies are
activated and histamine, which causes the bronchial muscles to
contract, is released. As they contract, coughing and sneezing start in
order to dislodge the allergen.
Anaphylactic shock and respiratory arrest: if the person has a severe
reaction to an allergen, including significant itching and swelling of
lymph nodes, swelling of theallergies mucous membranes of the nose and
the ears, and difficulty breathing due to constriction of the air
passages, this is likely to be an anaphylactic response and requires
emergency care. If untreated, anaphylaxis can be rapidly fatal.
For mild cases and to reduce the frequency of attacks nutritional supplements and natural remedies
can provide relief.
